How To Make Your Sink Sparkle

Today we share a quick How-To on the best way to clean the most heavily-used surface in your kitchen and bathrooms. This is the exact process we follow when we clean for you, but you can get the same effect day-in and day-out. Whether it’s a brand new sink or one you’ve had for years, you can make yours gleam in a few simple steps.

YOU WILL NEED

  • Soft Scrub with Bleach
  • Two-Sided Scrub Sponge
  • Microfiber Cleaning Cloth

STEP 1

Rinse the sink to clear any loose food particles and debris.

STEP 2

Add a quarter-size dollop of Soft Scrub with Bleach to the soft side of the scrub sponge. Wipe every inch of the sink including the edges. If there are dried particles stuck to the surface, you can use the rough side of the sponge. But be careful not to overuse the rough side as it can sometimes scratch. Rinse the bleach well from the sink as it can stain if you leave it on too long.

STEP 3

Next take your microfiber towel and wipe the entire sink. This will absorb the water and remove any remaining Soft Scrub. Plus, this gives it a nice even finish. And Voila, you are sparkling!

How To Use Your Vacuum Attachment Tools

We hope you're having a great week and enjoying the slight relief from the heat. Today we’ve got a quick tutorial on how to use those interesting looking vacuum attachment tools. There may be times when you have last minute guests or someone drags mud into the house. A Dyson or other high-powered vacuum is a great household appliance to use when Rubio’s isn’t around. Here are some tips on how to make the most of it with the attachment tools.

CREVICE TOOL

This tool is a staple with most vacuums. It’s long and thin, which is perfect for hard to reach areas, tight gaps and awkward spaces. We use this tool to clean out dryer vents and in between sofa cushions.

STIFF BRISTLE BRUSH

A very common vacuum attachment and it works wonders. The rigid bristles can loosen up dirt or other debris that gets stuck on carpet or other surfaces. We love this for dry food or mud on carpet. Be careful with this tool on sensitive surfaces as the brush can be abrasive. Use the soft dusting brush instead for anything more delicate.

SOFT DUSTING BRUSH

As mentioned above, we like this tool for dusting delicate surfaces. The tiny bristles are soft and fine so you can increase the amount of dust you pick up. There is also a felt bumper which protects from scratching. We use this for lamp shades, picture frames, and window sills.

Note: For mini blinds, you can either use the stiff bristle brush or the soft dusting brush!

FLAT OUT TOOL

If you have a choice of tools for your Dyson, we highly recommend this flat out tool. It has a lower profile and keeps it’s suction strength even when you lay the handle flat to the ground. We use it under furniture on carpet and under cabinets and appliances on hardwood floors.

Even if you are in between regular cleanings, we are always here for you. If you need us to come at the last minute, give us a call and check our availability. Often times we can make it work.

Stay Safe + Hydrated for the 4th!

Summer in Sacramento has been FUN and HOT so far! And there's more fun to be had over this 4th of July weekend. So we thought we'd send you a few ways to stay safe and hydrated so you can enjoy every minute of it.

Firework Safety

Everyone loves fireworks, kids and adults alike. But they can be downright dangerous if not handled with care. Just a few precautions can go a long way to keeping your home and loved ones out of harm's way.

  • keep a bucket of water close by to soak used fireworks
  • have a hose ready as well for any rogue flames
  • remember pets are sensitive to the noise from fireworks, so keep them in the house protected from the exposure to loud sounds

Hydration Doesn't Have to be Boring

Being outside in the summer heat can really have an effect on us. Heat stroke and heat exhaustion can sneak up quickly and water doesn't always cut it. Watermelon is a delicious way to stay hydrated; it contains 92 percent water and is full of important electrolytes, too.

7 Steps To Declutter Your Closet

If you've lived in the same place for some time, you've probably accumulated a lot of clothes, shoes, and other apparel in your closet. Maybe you'd like to free up some space for new fashion, but don't know where to start. Use these 7 steps to declutter your space and breathe some new life into your wardrobe...and your life!

Organized Closet

1. Take everything out of the closet.

Yes, everything. Normally a bed is nearby to use as a holding zone. If you put everything on your bed, you’ll be motivated to complete the project before bedtime.

2. Wipe down the closet.

All the shelves and walls, and mop or vacuum the floor. Make it really clean in there. Air it out.

3.  Take a first pass at sorting.

Sort each item of clothing into one of the following four piles. Don’t give it too much thought, just go with your first reaction.

  • Love: I love these items. I wear them frequently. They fit me well.
  • Maybe: I want to keep this but I don’t know why.
  • Donate: I won’t use them, but they will benefit someone.
  • Trash: These items are in poor condition.

4.  Deal with the Donations.

Box or bag up the items to donate. Write Rubio’s Cares on the box and put it where we can see it, yet out of your sight. When we come to clean your house, we can take your items to one of our special charities, such as The Salvation Army and Compassion Planet Thrift & Home Store.

5.  Throw out the trash.

6.  Take a second pass at the remaining two piles.

Now you’re down to two piles: Love and Maybe. Try on clothing you aren’t sure about and ask the following questions:

  • Would I buy this at the store today?
  • Have I worn this in the last 3-6 months? Chances are you won't wear it in the next 3-6 months...or ever!
  • Do I love it?

If the answer is "no," add it to the donation pile and place it out of sight.
If it's a "yes," then it's a keeper.

7.  Return the remaining clothing to your closet.

Here are a few space saving ideas to think about:

  • Use a hanging shoe organizer for soft, bulky items like sweaters, jeans, sweatshirts or workout clothes.
  • Install towel bars to hang belts and scarves.
  • Attach shelving brackets upside down to add more space for hanging.
